Shari Farmer Obituary

Shari Elizabeth (White) Farmer, 70, died on February 17, 2021, several days after suffering a head injury from a fall at home. She was nearing the end of a long battle with multiple myeloma. Shari had many roles in her life, all of which she nurtured wholeheartedly. She was a loving and caring daughter to her parents, who both lived into their 90s. She was passionate about teaching and profoundly touched the lives of so many young people throughout her three decades as an educator. Shari was a loyal friend and kept in touch with dozens of people near and far--friends from childhood, colleagues from school, book groups and bridge groups, former neighbors, and of course our extended potluck family. All were incredibly important to her throughout her life and they brought her so much purpose and joy.

Above all else, Shari was a devoted wife and mother. Shari and Tom raised their daughters to be strong, empathetic, and independent women. She took great pride in watching her daughters grow through all the stages of life. She loved seeing them become professionals, wives, and mothers themselves. Shari didn’t get many years as a grandmother but she excitedly took on this role as well. Shari and Tom spent vacations, especially in their empty nest years, traveling the world. Their Alaskan cruise in 2006 and their trip to Iceland in 2016 were among her favorites. In her retirement, she found a new passion as an enthusiastic member of the little company Swittens that produces recycled clothing products, especially wool mittens. She was also a leader in the local library’s used book sale program. She took great pride and satisfaction in both of these activities.

Shari was born in Minneapolis on August 19, 1950, to Roy K. and Eva V. (Erickson) White. She is survived by Thomas A. Farmer, her devoted husband of 48 years, her two daughters; Emily E. Farmer (Kyle Melton) of Columbus, OH, and Ann M. Conrath (Adam Conrath) of Columbus, OH; three grandchildren, Caroline Conrath (3), Charlie Melton (2), Forrest Conrath (9 months); and her older brother Roger K. White (Laurie) of Apple Valley, MN.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Shari to The Family Resource Center of Oxford, OH. Memorial celebrations will be held once it is safe to do so.
