Loyola “Ola” Katherine Johnson went home to be with our Lord on June 29, 2020. Born on January 3, 1928 to Lorraine and Lester Long, Sr., she grew up in Hamilton, OH. She married Raymond Francis Schutte on April 26, 1948. They were stationed at Ft. Belvoir, VA from 1953-55 while Ray served in The United States Army. They lived with an officer and his family at this time, and Ola was their housekeeper and nanny. She gave birth to a daughter, Dianne, before moving back to Ohio in early 1955 at the end of the Korean War. Their “car seat” at the time for their eight week old baby was a banana box. The Oxford area became their home in 1972, where they lived happily together until Ray’s passing in 1998. She married Grant Johnson on June 23, 1999 and lived happily until his passing in 2008.
Ola had three grandchildren, Amy, Dan and Julie. She loved spending time with her family, sewing, flowers, gardening, pizza, swimming, sled riding, camping, parties and her dog “Buddy”. Ola was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, and had served as a Girl Scout leader and Poll Worker. She was very social and an active member of her Church, Prayer Group, Ladies Society and the Oxford Senior Center.
Ola was preceded in death also by her parents, brother Lester Long, Jr. and two infant brothers.
She is Survived by daughter Dianne (Ron) Halcomb, grandchildren Amy Taylor (Jaime Miller), Dan Taylor, Julie (Michael) Schwab and great-grandsons Calvin and Tony Benge, step great-grandchildren AJ, Michael, Layne and Emma Schwab, Her best friend Jeannette Buller and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 6th from 10:30 AM until time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM at St. Mary Church, 111 East High Street, Oxford, OH 45056. Masks and social distancing will be in place. Interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery (Oxford, OH). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary Church or the Oxford Senior Center.
