Harold Dean Smith, Sr.

Harold Dean Smith, Sr., 84, of Liberty, Indiana, went to be with the Lord on October 31, 2023 surrounded by his family. He died due to complications caused by injuries sustained in a car accident. He was born in Benedict, Virginia on October 18, 1939.

He is the devoted father of Harold Dean (Mary) Smith, Jr., Teresa Harris, Rachel Croucher and Julie (Brandon) Combs; loving brother of Mary (Gary) Hatton, Doris Merritt, Rose Bowling, Phillip (Marlyn) Smith, Joseph (Marian) Smith and Joyce Smith. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Connie L. Smith; his father Harvey Monroe Smith; mother Willie Vival Smith; brothers Boyd Harvey Smith and James Odell Smith; and sister Ruby Jean Austin. He leaves behind several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins, which he loved dearly. He is also survived by many dear friends. 

Dean retired from Harvest Land Co-Op after working there for many years. He was an avid problem solver and could fix or repair anything from automobiles to farm equipment. 

Dean loved playing gospel music with his family every week. He played the guitar, mandolin and used to play the banjo. He loved singing and was great at it. He enjoyed playing at the local nursing homes up until covid. He enjoyed visiting the sick and praying with them. He loved fishing, picnicking, going to Hueston Woods and spending time with friends and family. 

Most of all he loved the Lord and talking about the Bible. His memory will be cherished by all that know him. He will forever be in our hearts. 

A visitation for Dean will be held at Paul R. Young Funeral Home in Oxford on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 from 12 pm until time of service at 2 pm. Burial will be held immediately after the service at College Corner Cemetery.
