Dr. David F. Wilson, age 78 of Oxford. OH, passed away on August 17, 2019. He was born Feb 23, 1941 in Elmont, NY, the son of Charles E. and Beatrice (Jenkins) Wilson. David married Susan Blood on August 21, 1965 in Alexandria, Virginia, and together they enjoyed almost 54 years of marriage. Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Susan (Blood), their children, Ken, Ed, and Jim; grandchildren: Sam, Jacob, Brooke, Emma, and CJ. David enjoyed planting trees, flowers, traveling, genealogy, volunteering for his church and community. David was an active member of the Oxford Presbyterian church since 1969 and for many years served as an Elder. David was an active volunteer in Troop 930 in Oxford for a number of years serving in a variety of roles including, Troop Committee Chair, Assistant Scoutmaster, and Scoutmaster. Following retirement David became involved with the CASA program in Hamilton that represents foster children in the court system. David was also very involved with Safe Haven Farms, a community for adults with autism, located in Middletown, OH. His greatest delight was spending time with his grandchildren.
Professionally, David joined the faculty of Miami University in 1969. He was a Professor of Zoology at Miami University and was a member of the Neuroscience group. David earned a B.A. in Biology at Hofstra University in 1963 and M.A in 1965 and a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences in 1968 from the University of Delaware. David then entered an NIH postdoctoral fellowship at Northwestern University in Illinois prior to accepting a tenure track position at Miami University. Professor Wilson had a strong interest in research in the area of neurophysiology and remained active in research and worked with numerous graduate and undergraduate students until his retirement. Professor Wilson was very committed to teaching and mentoring students. He enjoyed teaching and challenging students in the area of human physiology and neurophysiology. During his tenure, he was also very involved with students interested in pursuing a career in the health sciences. Professor Wilson was instrumental in creating and directing the “Mallory Wilson Center for Health Care Education”.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Oxford Presbyterian Church 101 N. Main Street, Oxford Ohio at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 7, 2019. A reception will immediately follow in the Seminary building at the corner of Church and Poplar. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Safe Haven Farms, or Oxford Presbyterian Church, or the Mallory-Wilson Center at Miami University.
